The Manufacturing Operations Management Institute (MOMi) has released a new white paper, “Using the MOMi Manufacturing Use Case Navigator for MES Selection.” Written by Gerard Ipskamp, it provides manufacturers with a practical framework for evaluating Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Manufacturing Operations Management (MOM) solutions.
This white paper introduces the Manufacturing Use Case Navigator, a structured, use-case-driven approach designed to help manufacturers move beyond feature lists and vendor claims when selecting MES solutions. Instead, the framework focuses on how solutions support real-world manufacturing operations and business requirements.
MOMi developed the Navigator in response to the challenges many organizations face when comparing MES platforms. The methodology evaluates solutions against a comprehensive set of manufacturing use cases across key operational areas, including material management, scheduling and workload coordination, quality management, equipment management, and product lifecycle support.
The objective is to bring greater transparency and consistency to the MES selection process, enabling manufacturers to identify solutions that best align with their operational needs and long-term digital transformation goals. The approach also forms the foundation of the recently launched Manufacturing Use Case Navigator Flagship Report 2026, which provides broader market insights based on the same methodology.
The white paper is intended for manufacturing leaders, digital transformation teams, and decision-makers seeking a more structured and objective way to evaluate MOM and MES technologies in an increasingly complex market.
